Stocks and Seasonal Soups to Nourish the Whole Family
Friday, March 19th 9:30am – 11:30am
Homemade soups and stocks are among the most nutritious foods you can add into your family's diet - especially during the cold/flu season. Hearty bone stocks and vegetable broths provide essential minerals and gelatin keeping our immune systems strong. They are also cost effective, using up bones and meat that might otherwise be thrown away and they are easy to freeze - making dinner time a simple meal!

Why is it in the spring, we have so many children suffering from colds and allergies instead of enjoying the sweet scent of spring? Join me for a class discussing the importance of seasonal eating and nourishing our children in the spring, the benefits of fresh spring greens, how to choose them, store them, and prepare them so they are simple and delicious for your whole family!

Listing of Local Markets: Go to www.freshfarmmarkets.org for more information about markets in your area…also a great source for recipes .
The farmers markets I like best are-the Arlington farmers marketon Saturday morning. Wheatland Farms is my favorite stand there. They have the most incredible vegetables andthe owners are very passionate about organic farming!
I also love to go to the Dupont circle market on Sunday mornings…Tree and Leaf and Next Step are the farms I buy from the most. They are wonderful! Smith Fresh Meats and eco friendly farms are best for grass fed beef and pastured chicken. This market also sells free range eggs.
University of Maryland website: Allows consumers to buy directly from local farmers www.foodtrader.org.
